New Delhi Motor Show: Tata reveals its £1,300 car

11 January 2008

Tata has launched the world's cheapest car: the INR100,000 (£1,300) Nano.

The Nano - looking a little like the original Daewoo Matiz or the Think electric car - is a high-roofed five-door with a 30bhp, 625cc Bosch engine and four-speed manual gearbox.

In standard form, it has no power steering, no electric windows, no airbags and no air conditioning - even instrumentation is kept to a bare minimum of speedo, fuel gauge and oil light. Some creature comforts will be offered as options, however, in more expensive 'deluxe' versions.

Aston Martin goes to Le Mans in Gulf livery

11 January 2008

Aston Martin Racing has revealed its DBR9 GT1 contender for the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours - and it's going to wear the blue and orange livery of sponsors Gulf Oil, as seen on the 1968 Ford GT40, the Porsche 917 and numerous champion sports cars.

Gulf Oil spokesman Alain Dujean said: 'The famous Gulf racing colours first tasted victory at Le Mans in 1968, so 2008 already had great significance for us, but for Gulf to have joined up with Aston Martin Racing for this year is fantastic - the coming together of two great automotive names, for what I hope will be a long and fruitful partnership.'
